Learn more about HIV/AIDS – change the world to the better
The idea to dedicate children’s festival to HIV/AIDS issues was initiated by organizer of the festival, Foundation of hope and good. The ANTIAIDS Foundation supported this initiative and organized a special HIV/AIDS programme within the festival. The ANTIAIDS Foundation invited medical doctors, actors and communication experts who brought their experience in implementation of social projects. Discrimination of HIV-positive people became the most popular topic of all creative workshops. All workshops’ participants took part in HIV/AIDS trainings, which were conducted by doctors of the Crimean Republican AIDS Centre.
A theatre workshop, conducted by famous actors of the Kyiv Podol Theatre, Sergiy Boyko and Svitlana Teleglova, became the most popular project within the HIV/AIDS programme of the festival. Since 2004, this theatre has an interactive performance based on the materials of the all-Ukrainian HIV/AIDS hotline.
The 20-minutes stage play performed by young actors gave a story of an HIV-positive girl, who became infected during donor blood transfusion. Her friend abandoned her, surrendering to pressure of his parents and environment. She was left in a vacuum, which accelerated development of the disease. The girl died, and this made the main hero change his views. The last question of the performance – what would you do? – kids were asking to their teen- audience, having climbed down the stage with microphones.
“Artek” campers discussed ideas of social video clips with Arnold Kremenchutsky, producer of one of the largest Ukrainian production studios “Peck Shot Boys”. The studio traditionally seeks to work with social projects, including those addressing HIV/AIDS issues. How can one support HIV-positive people, how can one help them to find their place and role in the society – here are the main topics of projects developed at this workshop.
Social poster, developed by “Artek” campers, touches upon a topic which adults avoid to discuss with children. It is the topic of safe sex, and it was initiated by kids themselves. It looks like adults need to analyze and change their views as to at which age kids are ready to discuss “adult” topics. This workshop was led by Pavel Piminov, Communications Director, Elena Pinchuk ANTIAIDS Foundation.
Graffiti mini-festival became the most spectacular project of the programme. It became an extension of ANTIAIDS Foundation’s efforts to organize a big graffiti festival in Kiev. 26 applications for the festival from 15 teams were received in 2004. Three of them were invited for the “Artek” programme, which was implemented in partnership with website www.graffiti.org.ua. A team of “Artek” campers was working in parallel with three graffiti teams. Guests conducted a mini-training on graffiti techniques prior to the contest.
